Webtrees joomla integration12/2/2023 ![]() ![]() Obviously not necessary if you develop as a module. Like can you have a common log in that will sign you in to both applications Yes, if a module, it would automatically be integrated into the webtrees presentation.Īccess to the menu and module could have identical controls to all the other modules, blocks and charts - accessible to PUBLIC, AUTHEN., ADMIN Not knowing about what would be involved but things like integration, I don't intend to criticize, but I do not think you thought about this very much. PS - as an afterthought and I may be erroneous in my thinking but would genealogy programs come under the general heading of content management systems? Please feel free to share your ideas, your experiences and any other contribution. Is anyone working on a webtrees Joomla plugin or other CMS program? I've just started looking at third party blog software and Geeklog seems to be well established with many plugins and well supported - anyone had any experience with it? Not knowing about what would be involved but things like integration, sharing of user information, like can you have a common log in that will sign you in to both applications, security issues immediately come to mind?īTW it's never occurred of me to ask but how safe is webtrees from malicious attacks and exploits? The point of posting it was to see if any other person had similar thoughts and/or experience with that sort of software and if it is feasible. Took it for granted that it would not be part of your development goals and would have to be an addon type application. No idea if this latter proposition is possible or how it could be implemented but would be really cool if it could be.Ĭonnexion ou Créer un compte pour participer à la conversation. Obviously some users would only want this to be completely private, some would want to invite only family members while others would want not hesitate at broadcasting it all users of webtrees in that community. I supposed what I am advocating here is some sort of a private blog with basic formatting tools and date driven where the user can invite other users if he wishes to view and/or participate in his whole blog or in a particular "story or tale". ![]() Another reason for users to continuously revisit the site and use it. Since this has nothing to do with the GEDCOM, it would be specific to the webtrees program thereby adding another dimension to the program and a definite selling point. The other separate use that I see and have suggested is a private area for the exclusive use of a particular user where the user can record anything of his liking. Wandering if there is any interest in developing a blog like private space for users and what would be involved - re my comments: ![]() But not the same risk profile at all.Just carrying on from the discussion A different view of "stories" A great CMS for many things (I use it extensively myself for non-genealogy data purposes) but inherently hackable.īlogging about family history is another issue completely, and there you would be right that WP is popular. I don’t know about you, but I’d be uncomfortable trusting my carefully researched “life’s-work” and my relatives personal information to such a risk as WP carries. Family history commonly contains a lot of personal data, including about living relatives. In my experience, outside of webtrees/kiwitrees/phpgedview the majority of family historians use the big data companies (Ancestry, FindMyPast, MyHeritage etc) or keep their data off the web completely. I suspect your imagination “might” be wrong! But more importantly WP is also the worlds most hacked CMS in the world by a very large margin. ![]() I could imagine that the most genealogy sites worldwide are using WordPress as content management system.Īs WordPress is the most used CMS worldwide, wouldn't it be logical to combine webtrees with WordPress through a WordPress plugin or WordPress theme? On a low level in comparison to webtrees. ![]()
